Shooting notes: The hectic lighting made this a somewhat difficult shoot, so I relied on my D700 pushed to ISO 6400 with my 70-200 lens for these shots. I decided to focus primarily on Abbath for this show due to his role as primary songwriter within the band.

Fuck the lighting, you and your d700 got some epic pix! That is my next camera hoping in a couple of weeks if all turns out well.
Which specific lens is that you used? I’m trying to make sure I get the right lens the first time. I’m assuming you used no flash; I can’t really tell if there is any graininess at that ISO speed! I’m amazed and can’t wait!
Thanks, Lorenzo! The D700 is a fantastic camera, you certainly can’t go wrong with it. I used the new Nikon 70-200 VRII lens for this show, although I’m sure the older model (VRI) would serve you equally well. Lens choice is an important one – what will you primarily be using it for?
And yeah, no flash for this show – a good majority of concerts prohibit flash, so it’s nice to have the D700′s great high-ISO performance to fall back on. 6400 is perfectly usable, with hardly any grain.
Been using the d90 with both a vr2 18-200 and a 50mm 1.4….doing the concert photography thing for a couple of years and getting pretty good I suppose. Been getting in the HoB in SD and other places that dont really care about cameras….So I’ve been doing well with the fixed lens, but ready to upgrade.
Mainly a hobby now but geting ready to do more with it, but not ready to leave my day job
Thanks for your reply, really dig your work!
Hoping to get my camera into the Slayer/Megadeth/Testament show in August…
